I would like to say a very special thank you to all who had turned up for my closed grading, I would not have been able to do it without all of you there supporting me and cheering me on. Understandably there were many who had travelled great distances to be there on that day, but it was not only the fact that people had travelled quite far to be there, (also not ignoring everyone else who was there) rather everyone's willingness to support their fellow Jujitsuans.
I have great admiration for all of you and it will be a day that I will never forget, and thank you for showing no sympathy which kept me strong. I would also like to thank those who were not able to be there but had given me their support. One doesn't realise who is really there for you until you go through the rough times and I was very pleased to see that there wasn't one person in our club that did not show true team spirit/brotherhood.
It was not only a very tough day to get through but also a very humbling and honourable experience.
I would like to personally thank Shihan for his teachings and for guiding me through all these years, and also to all the Black Belts who have been very influential in my life as well, however it isn't over yet, and the hardest training is yet to come, and I wouldn't have it any other way, I welcome everyone who has a chance to train with me to hit me harder and throw me until it puts a smile on my face.
(as long as you don't hurt my left knee)
-Sempai Justin Hobson

Warm welcome back in 2008, with the Junior classes restarting at the PCYC Branches this week. As everyone settles back into school and rejoins their training buddies at JuJitsu Classes, as we begin another year refreshed and recharged. We have already had our first senior grading for the year with ten students nominated for various belt grades. Everyone performed as expected, with some extending even further. Surprises like that are comon place at gradings, as individuals pull-out all stops to show their proficiency. Their were quite a few Juniors who braved the tough summer training Senior Sessions, participating in 16 extra training sessions, look out for these gutsy juniors at training, they won't be the ones who have let their fitness slip over the holidays, they are mat fit already and ready for a solid year of training. There was talk last year of several family members of Sakura Ryu who intend to start their own training by taking to the tough senior class at Cleveland this week. We were glad to see this was not just talk with Tanya beginning her training in the tough Hombu classes after so many years watching from the sidelines as her children trained in Junior Classes. Now her son Jackson is training with the Senior Class she has enthusiastically taken her place on the mat alongside him. The first week back five new students took the mat on Tuesday, Claire, Nicola, Nicky, Tina and Veronica, then on the Friday Maree joined them as they took to the mat for round two. Our Senior Men were not going to let the women have all the fun though, Brian, Duncan, Paul and Lee have started strong this season, hoping to continue towards their first Kyu Grading. Welcome to our classes. Lets all give these fine people support and help them get settled in. If you have always wanted to give JuJitsu training a go, NOW is the time, join this determined bunch and learn something new, get fit and have some fun while your at it. You will be amongst friends, and we will help get you settled in as well. |

Hello everyone, It’s great to be back in full swing again in 2008. The Junior class numbers are building back up after everyone settles into the school year. We have already performed a couple of JuJitsu Demonstrations, one for Redlands PCYC Open Day and one for Beenleigh PCYC Open Day. From these we have had a number of new members join our club and are training hard and getting good results for their efforts. Our regular members are performing well and showing a good level of fitness, which is great for this time of the year. This good start will pay dividends as the year progresses. We are currently signing new members to the Senior classes at Capalaba on Tuesday nights, so if you have always wanted to begin training but were apprehensive because of the intimidating large crowd on Thursday Night, Tuesday may be a better option for you. Come and try JuJitsu, we know you will love it as much as we do. We are all looking forward to Sempai Justin Hobson’s Public Black Belt Grading, which is scheduled for Sunday 16th March. He has been training very hard for this and what’s more he travels up from the Gold coast every day just to get to training, then returns home to the Gold Coast each evening. Justin manages a Retail Store on the Gold Coast, and so has been living there for a few years as he develops his career, he hopes one day to be the owner of a Retail Store. If you know Justin you know he is a man of few words and means what he says, if his goals are to own a store, you know he will set his mind to it and work hard to make it happen. |
